My mom and I often make our own lunch. But it doesn’t mean that we are against eating out. Our fairly limited cooking skill makes us feel the need to try something from outside.

This month, Jakarta Street Food Festival (JSFF) 2015, returns for the third time to La Piazza, Summarecon Kelapa Gading, during 6-22 November 2015. This event is a good excuse for me to check out last Sunday afternoon.

The ambience was European but with a range of local to international foods filling the venue that was packed with young couples and groups of families. It was full. Afternoon cloud and heavy shower couldn’t stop them (including me) from enjoying the food there.

Like previous year’s JSFF, there is a special card with a balance of cash that can be ‘bought’ around the cashiers to make it easy to do transaction around the venue. With that card on hand, I started by checking out all the food stalls before deciding. There were foods that are booming in social media right now such as pizza in the shape of an ice cream cone, kue cubit and flavored martabak, and flavored tofu. Familiar foods such as nasi goreng, noodle, grilled rice, grilled corn, and es campur were also there. But I was pulled to the durian ice cream stall. There was an ‘eat durian all you can’ program for every Monday and Wednesday. If we reload our JSFF card up to a balance of Rp 250 thousand, we will get a voucher to eat durian as much as we want.

Going to JSFF 2015 with this many range of taste, inspired me to try to make our own version at home. It might work the same for you. If you’d like to have time out from cooking at home, and in need of an inspiration from trying out new tastes, I tell you… go while there is still time. JSFF 2015 is still around up to the end of this week.
