Ubud Food Festival (UFF) is back this year with a three-day culinary journey on a 'Go Local' theme. We will be taken through discussion, cooking demonstration, movie screening, and special event to understand our background, history and the meaning of our culinary culture, by those with in-depth of knowledge in the culinary area.
"This year's program will be around the theme 'Go Local', which aims to enrich our understanding of the Indonesian culinary; such as the origin, the cook, and how they fit with the social, culture, and the surrounding geography, " said Janet DeNeefe, founder and director of UFF.
So, who will be our culinary icons at the UFF 2016?
Crowd favorite, Sisca Soewitomo, is one whose career in culinary has spanned across 40 years through her books of recipe compilation, TV shows, and now Youtube! William Wongso is another crowd favorite of all time. He has gone around the world, apart from going from end to end in our own land - who has recently launched his book 'Flavors of Indonesia: William Wongso's Culinary Wonders'. He is one of the many friends whom we have featured in Rasamasa, such as Petty Elliott, a food writer and champion of modern Indonesian cooking; Chris Salans (Mozaic), Bara Pattiradjawane, Rahung Nasution, Will Meyrick (Hujan Locale), Mandif Warokka, our very first Michelin star chef. They are all joined by over 60 local chefs and culinary icons including a lineup of Ubud-based chefs Eelke Plasjmeijer (Locavore), Will Goldfarb (Room 4 Dessert), Nic Vanderbeeken (CasCades Restaurant), and many more.
What will be interesting about this event is that, according to Janet, each of the chefs will be buy their ingredients for their own events, fresh from Pasar Ubud. On top of that, they will use charcoal and bamboo fan - a traditional cooking technique that still lives until today.
UFF 2016 will be filled with discussion around food, cooking demonstration, movie screening and special events in some of Ubud's best spots such as Bisma Eight, Casa Luna, Amandari, MOKSA, Uma Cucina, Warwick Ibah. The main events will be held in Taman Kuliner, Jalan Raya Sanggingan, Campuhan, during 27-29 May 2016.
